Think of Sam Spade and most other "gumshoe" detectives. I'm surprised they didn't start waring helmets after the oh 10th time or so!
I do not just now remember whether he gets knocked on the head quite that often in Tolkien's novel, though I suspect not. OTOH, novel!Aragorn probably sensibly wore a helmet.

I think that this slideshow puts Zero Hour in a whole new light. Obviously, Hal was eager to destroy the universe and rewrite the laws of physics to cut back on the brain damage.

Riddle me this: why couldn't they have resurrected Earth-D as one of the 52? For that matter, wouldn't Earth-D have been Alex' "perfect Earth" in the first place?
